About the General Foundation Qualification in Design and Technology
Through the design and development process, this qualification will allow learners to explore and respond to various contexts and to reflect on their own work while engaging in rich, authentic experiences.
Learners will develop core knowledge and understanding based on Health and Safety issues alongside in-depth content in one the following pathways:
- Engineering Design
- Fashion and Textiles
- Product Design.
Learners will also develop their practical skills linked to a sustained design and make task.
Who is this qualification for?
This qualification is for learners between 14-16 who are working at Entry 1 to Level 1 in this subject.
It will build on the conceptual understanding learners have developed through their Curriculum for Wales learning from ages 3-14. It also relates to and supports the four purposes and the principles of progression.
The qualification will provide a broad basis for progression onto GCSE Design and Technology by focussing on similar skills and understanding.
